There are better places to bring your pet

Posted by sunshinegrrl on 11/10/2008

I usually take my dog to a daycare/boarding place she loves in downtown Austin, but it's a 30 min. drive so I decided to try J4P. The first time my dog stayed for dayare she was drooling excessively when I picked her up. I didn't even realize it was drool and assumed her mouth was wet because she drank water just before I came. The person at the front asked me about the drool, but I didn't put two and two together because she never drools like this at home. I took my dog there a second time and again, drooling mess when I picked her up. The drool was so bad, her face was sopping wet with mucus dripping off of it. This time I realized something might be wrong and did some research. I learned that sudden excessive drooling is an indicator of several serious health issues that could result in death. She has never had this problem at 2 other boarding/daycare facilities she's stayed at for weeks at a time. Because their staff didn't recognize this as abnormal behavior, it made me uncomfortable to leave my dog there again.

Don't believe what you read.

I am currently working at J4P and I can honestly say that this is truly the best place to bring your dog. This is not your typical kennel where they just put your dog in a cage and leave it. On average the dogs get 6-8 hours of playtime each day with the other dogs. We separate the dogs depending on size and temperament and we always have somebody watching them 24 hours a day. We never put more than one dog in a run unless it is family and the owners know about it prior to boarding. As for the negative comments on here. You should pass your own judgement by coming out and taking a look for yourself. I can assure you that the negative comments were put up here by our competition that feels threatened by a far superior Establishment. As i said come by anytime you like (no need to call or make an appointment) to see the place and I think you should go by the competition as well. As for our competition goes not all are bad. in fact when ever we are booked up and have no more room we recommend other Establishments that we believe care about and take care of the animals the same as us. We have been here for 9 years and most of our business is based on repeat customers and referrals from local Vet's. If we were such a bad place we would have neither.

Not the best

This place has a few problems. Yes it is hard to get answers either via phone, fax, email. They are very understaffed for that size of a kennel. The dogs are looked after people that are not licensed or trained under any type of protocol. There are other kennels in town that do have ample protocol for providing a safe environment for your pets. The dogs do like being there, but the small ones are mixed in with large ones and dogs that have issues are left in their cages for long periods of time. Dogs that aren't fixed don't get to interact either in case you think they do. Mostly they could just use some more staff and a knowledgeable staff. I found the owner to be a bit uncaring and not really in tune with the idea of customer service.

WOW!

Well I just don't know what to say except...WOW! I'm a former employee who is not disgruntled but just wants to get paid for my time...Needless to say, I still haven't...Marc, the husband of the ow ner owes me about a weeks pay since the early part of December and has lied numerous times about why he cannot seem to get his business straight...I have been patient but enough is enough... He says on the Just Four Paws website that everyone is liscenced with the state which is also not true...Many times the dogs who don't mix are left in the kennel for hours on end and sometimes forgotten about as well...

Great Experiences at Just Four Paws

I have always had a great experience at Just Four Paws. I've met the owner, Mark numerous times and found him to be friendly and helpful, along with the rest of the staff. My dog has stayed there on several occasions. They are always accomodating to my dog's needs (food, medicine, a little frightened by other dogs). My dog has always been happy and exhausted from all her socializing when I pick her up.
